نماذج امتحان انجليزي مع الاجوبة لثوية العامة -التعليم الاماراتي

Choose either I or II. Number III is obligatory

I. Read the following passage carefully, and answer the questions below:

A century ago, the ancestors of Emirati people didn’t have electricity. This meant that they couldn’t save food by freezing it or putting it in cans, but they had many clever ways to save food. For example, dates (tamr) were pressed until thick sweet syrup came out of them. However, the main way of saving or preserving food was to dry it. The most important dried foods were fish, milk, and limes.
Fish have always been plentiful in the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman. When fishermen caught small fish (“Jashe’a), they spread them on the ground and dried them in the sun. Larger fish (“maleh”) had to be covered with salt before they were left. Oysters (“douch) were left in the sun to open. Later, people boiled them in water before they ate them. Milk didn’t last long in the days before refrigerators and air conditioning. Yegat is a kind of dried milk that has been mixed with salt and shaped into round balls. You can still find this type of dried milk in markets today.
In the past, people got lemons and limes from Oman or Somalia and dried them in the sun. Fresh lemons were used with fish, but dried lemons or loumee gave food special flavour. The lemons turn brown when they are dried. Drying food was a good way to preserve it, but it had other benefits. When you dry food, the healthy vitamins remain and the process makes the flavour stronger. Perhaps that’s why traditional dried food are still popular today.

In most parts of the world, education began with religious schools and the same is true of the UAE where the first schools were the Mutawa schools. But, since 1962 when oil production started, the UAE education system has developed rapidly. By1971 there were approximately 28,000 students in the country but students wishing to continue to further education had to go abroad, usually to the UK or the United States. Today, every village has at least one primary and secondary schools are accessible to the whole population. The first university, the UAE University in Al Ain, opened in 1977 and has graduated over 20,000 students since then. There is now a wide range of institutions offering higher education opportunities including the Higher Colleges of Technology and several universities. The Ministry of Education and Youth has a 20 years strategy to further develop education in the UAE. They aim to provide computers to students at all levels and to emiratise the teaching staff. The goal is for 90 % of teachers to be Emiratis by the year 2022. The success of the UAE education system can be seen in the rise in literacy rates. In 1975 only 54% of men and women 31 % of women were literate. In 1998 this had risen to 73 % for men and 77% for women.

The coldest regions in the world are the Polar Regions near the North and South poles. They have an arctic climate. The hottest regions are in south Asia, North Africa and Central America. They are in the tropics. Their climate is tropical. The countries between the polar and tropical regions have a temperate climate. This is the climate of Europe. The plant growth in a particular region is called the vegetation. The vegetation of an area depends on its climate. In wet, tropical regions, for example, jungles are the commonest vegetation. In these jungles the tops of the trees are large, and meet overhead. Underneath there are smaller trees.
The forests in the temperate regions are different. They don’t have the thick undergrowth that is found in the tropical jungles. These forests, therefore, are more open than the jungles. The deserts are the driest areas. They have very little vegetation at all. The regions farther north and south of the Equator are regions with ice, snow and frost all the year round. Here, too, there is little or no vegetation. Man’s most important interest in vegetation arises from his need for food. Different kinds of crops are grown in different climates. But with the scientific knowledge of farming that man possesses nowadays, he can grow some kinds of crops even in climates where formerly they could not be grown.
